Sometimes we get asked about the weather. It’s pretty simple. Our USCG licensed captains make that call at the time of departure. If it is too unsafe or too unpleasant (raining cats and dogs) we don’t go out, and you have your choice between rescheduling, or a gift card to use later, or a full refund.
Early evening is a favorite time for an excursion on sailing boat tours. The golden glow reflecting off the sails as the sun descends near the horizon is an unforgettable sight. And often the pinks & orange cloud puffs reflect off the inky purple water at twilight, a magical time for artists and romantics alike. During May, June & July the sun sets quite late thanks to daylight savings time, so check a sunset timetable to be sure you book the boat charter you want.
We call our 5:30-7:30 outing our ‘Sunset Cruise’. This timing allows you to enjoy the cocktail hour but still have time afterwards for a leisurely dinner at one of the local restaurants like the Harrisons Harbor Lights, Bistro, Ava’s, or Foxy’s. But during the longest days of summer when the sun sets later we also offer a ‘Moonlight Cruise’ from 7:30-9:30 for those who enjoy a bit of star gazing after the sun goes down past the horizon. If you opt for the Moonlight Cruise eat an early dinner, most of the St Michaels restaurants close at 9:00.
And speaking of cocktail hour, our Champagne sail boat tour has a delightful open bar stocked with a Cava (Champagne) from Spain, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc white wines and Maryland beers, including a nice selection of local, independent craft beers. Plus Cock, diet Coke, Sprite & water. And after drinking liquids if need be we have a vintage 1926 head (toilet) aboard with a varnished mahogany seat, a rarity for sure!
Plus mom always taught us not to serve booze without offering a little something to eat, so we put out a tray of light hors-d’œuvres of sesame rounds, baby carrots, and hummus de jour, typically black olive tamponade hummus, delish.
Something we hear people often comment about is how beautiful the historic yacht Selina II is, and how there is plenty of room to stretch out, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking views. Selina II’s cockpit was designed to entertain. 4 captain’s chairs and 2 double settees create a comfortable social setting for your small group. We can carry up to 6 passengers.
